FAQs
Is there a cost involved?
There is a $15 per hour session fee.
How long until I can start in the car?
All participants are required to attend an induction session then undergo a minimum of 1 lesson with a certified driving instructor prior to joining the mentors. The cost of the lesson is usually covered by the Wheels in Motion program.
What if I can’t afford the driving sessions?
You may apply for sponsorship; this can be discussed at your induction session.
How do I book sessions?
All bookings are made via the Wheels in Motion Coordinator. Regular sessions on set days/times are preferred.
Can you collect me from home?
No, the Mentors will not collect from your home. Our sessions start and finish at the local police station, collection from the local school can be organised.
Who are the Mentors?
Our wonderful Mentors are volunteers from the community who understand the need for a licence. They are not Driving Instructors; they act as a parent would in guiding the Learner's driving.
Our mentors are vetted, have a Working with Children check and undergo an evaluation from a certified community driver assessor, and receive continued support and guidance.
We have both male and female Mentors.
Can you help me get my Ps?
Our Program is there to provide participants with the opportunity to complete the required 75 hours. We do not provide the Vehicle On Road Test (VORT) or Competency Based Training & Assessment (CBT&A also known as Log Book), the participant is financially responsible.
I'm interested in becoming a Mentor, is there a commitment required?
No, we appreciate any time a Mentor can provide to us, whether that be 1 hour a fortnight or 4 hours a week. Schedules are created monthly and are very flexible.
