Transforming Lives Through Country Mentorship

Wheels in Motion Clare is a not for profit, volunteer driver mentor program giving young people in the Clare Valley the opportunity to overcome major employment, further education and social barriers by providing supervised driving experience with volunteer mentors.

This program targets young people who live/work/study in the Clare Valley and surrounding area

  • Without an accessible, appropriate vehicle in the household where they live

  • Or without regular access to a licensed supervising driver

Participants are matched with a volunteer from our experienced driver mentor team. Mentors provide encouragement and help young people improve their self-esteem, foster community connection and develop positive road safety attitudes.

Wheels in Motion pre-program components

To join the WIM Clare Program, you must complete the Contact Us Form section on the website.

You will be sent information, via email, and the necessary forms about the program to complete.

  1. After returning the forms, an induction session will be organised to discuss the program and to book a lesson with a licensed driving instructor. All participants will have a lesson with a licensed driving Instructor before joining the mentors. The cost of the lesson is covered by the program.

  2. Wheels in Motion provides a vehicle and volunteer mentor to supervise the learner’s driving. Our mentors are not driving instructors, they simply guide as a parent would. Sessions are 1–2 hours long, starting and finishing at the local police station, local school collection may be arranged if required. Mentors have a Working with Children Check and are fully licenced, experienced drivers.
